A wooden trellis fence provides more privacy and beauty than that of a chain link fence. You can add sturdy but lightweight wooden or composite lattice or trellis panels to the front of an existing sturdy chain link fence to create your own privacy barrier. Lattice panels are available at lumber suppliers.
Strengthen the lattice work privacy trellis by adding tie wire. Connect the lattice to the fence with a loop of tie wire every 12 to 18 inches. Connect the lattice panels to each other with tie wire. Plants can be placed next to the new structure so that they will climb the trellis and add to the privacy fence.
Pull a plastic zip tie through one of the holes in the lattice and around the chain link fence, then through the adjoining lattice hole. Insert the end of the zip tie through the head of the tie, and pull it tight to secure it in place.
Wrap the wire in between the lattice and chain link fence in the middle of the panel, then twist the wire to make sure it is secured to the panel. Next, use pliers to cut off the extra wire. Repeat this on the edges to the left and right, then on the top and bottom.
If there are fence height regulations where you live, this is a good workaround. This is a really good choice if you are trying to block out the view from a taller building. By setting the screen in from the property line, you will actually provide more privacy from than you would if your fence was taller.
Lattice can dress up a fence and extend the privacy at the top of the fence, and provide extra protection, support and safety at the base. Lattice can be applied in large and small areas for shade, snow screening, and repair. Attaching lattice to an existing fence is quite simple. Before adding lattice, measure the fencing to which you will add it.
Chain link fences are popular boundary markers, but they leave a lot of space for prying eyes. Fortunately, you have a few ways to block outside views. Bamboo fences serve as inexpensive ways to create tall barriers, or you can build your...
Adding a Lattice to an Existing Fence Adding a Lattice to an Existing Fence Lattice is a wooden or composite material that forms a grid of inch-wide strips. Most people use lattice fencing to add a decorative touch to the existing fence.
Dig out the chain link fence or take pics and put it on craigslist. Someone will want the fence for their own use and will dig it out for free. Then in the holes the chain link posts were in, dig them out a little and put in the wooden posts and concrete. Next, add the paneling. Voila, new fence (ok it's not really THIS easy but it's not hard either.).
Any old fence will cordon off a space. But a handsome design built from cedar parts also boosts curb appeal, which can't be said of even the finest chain link.
